Vice President of Technology
Job Summary:
The Vice President of Technology is responsible for defining and executing SmartLight’s technology vision, ensuring the scalability, security, and reliability of our platforms, and aligning technology strategy with business goals. This role provides executive leadership across engineering, data, infrastructure, and security, while partnering closely with product, operations, and commercial teams to support sustained growth in healthcare analytics.
Key Responsibilities:
Define and lead SmartLight’s technology strategy, architecture, and roadmap, including build vs. buy decisions, vendor selection, and platform modernization, aligned to company objectives
Own end‑to‑end technology execution across engineering, data, infrastructure, and IT services, ensuring scalable, reliable, secure, and cost‑effective delivery
Establish and enforce best practices for software development, data engineering, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and quality assurance
Oversee data governance, security, privacy, and compliance programs appropriate for healthcare and regulated data
Lead, develop, and retain high‑performing technical teams, including hiring, performance management, and leadership development
Manage the technology budget, resource planning, and risk management to support business priorities
Partner closely with Product, Operations, and Commercial leaders to translate business priorities into technical outcomes
Serve as a trusted technical advisor to the executive team, providing clear communication, transparency, and decision support
Responsible for the following business functions:
IT Services (personnel devices)
Infrastructure (on-prem and cloud servers, backups, networking)
Security Program (compliance, data governance, security audits)
Product Management (business to technology interfacing)
Software Engineering (building webapps)
Data Engineering (ingesting, processing and reporting)
Quality Assurance (testing our suite of developed products)
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
12+ years of progressive experience in technology, engineering, data, or related technical disciplines
5+ years of experience in senior technical leadership roles (Director level or above)
Demonstrated success scaling technology platforms and teams in a growth‑oriented environment
Strong background in modern, cloud‑based architectures and data platforms
Deep understanding of security, reliability, and operational excellence
Proven ability to lead cross‑functional teams and communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in healthcare domain including an understanding of claims data, compliant application development, and/or working with carriers
Familiarity with large‑scale data processing, machine learning, or analytics platforms
Prior experience operating at the executive level, including reporting to a CEO or board
Success Indicators:
Establish and maintain a clear technology vision and roadmap that directly supports SmartLight’s business priorities and product strategy, reviewed and aligned with leadership on a regular cadence
Improve platform scalability, performance, and reliability to support continued customer growth and data volume
Strengthen security, data governance, and compliance practices appropriate for healthcare and regulated data with improved audit readiness and risk mitigation
Improve delivery reliability by consistently delivering what is committed, on time, with fewer defects, less rework, and fewer last‑minute surprises for the business
Build a strong technical leadership bench by filling key leadership gaps within 6–12 months, reducing regretted attrition year over year, and improving engagement and retention across technical teams. Reduce architectural complexity and high‑impact technical debt by retiring or refactoring identified constraint areas, with measurable reductions in cycle time, system incidents, and maintenance effort
Establish strong cross‑functional partnerships with Product, Operations, and Commercial teams, reflected in shared quarterly planning, clearer ownership, and faster execution on cross‑functional initiatives
Enable faster innovation by increasing the frequency of new releases and enhancements while maintaining or improving system stability, security, and client trust
Improve responsiveness to time‑sensitive business needs by reducing average request‑to‑delivery cycle time
